Devotions for First Responders

The work of a first responder has always been difficult, but at no time has it been like it is now. In the book of Esther, we read the account of a young Jewish girl whom God used to save her people. God’s word tells us that Esther became a queen for “such a time as this” in the history of the Jewish nation. I pray that these devotions will be used to encourage all first responders, and the people who care about them, for such a time as this in our country’s history.

If you are someone in the first responder family who is in crisis send your email address to chaplainbrad52@gmail.com.  I will send you a free copy of my devotional, “Badge to Badge 365 Days of Encouragement for First Responders,” in a digital format for use on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. “Chaplain Brad Green’s devotionals are specifically written to encourage first responders in their relationship with God, and to deepen their faith in His word. Brad’s years of experience as a faithful, servant-based police officer is the basis of his devotions. More importantly, the messages are an expression of his life as a Christian husband, father and one who faithfully endured a full career in 9public service. The spiritual parallels he uses of those incidents and God’s word are direct and will give first responders great hope that God is with them as they face a multitude of career challenges, while balancing the importance of life outside of the job. I pray that these devotionals will find their way into the hands of first responders who continue to serve their communities with courage, honor, dedication, and faithfulness.”

Chief Tom Gazsi, Los Angeles Port Police

“Brad Green is one of the strongest men I have ever known. His strength is not just physical, it is spiritual. He has a heart for both the hurting and the courageous men and women who put on a uniform every day just like he did for years. I admired the way he fathered his three girls and I aspired to be like him: a compassionate man of character. In the darkest hours of my life, Brad supported me, encouraged me, and stood by me like no other friend, and I believe he will do the same for you. That was when I discovered he was an excellent writer. I still have the letters and notes he wrote me through that difficult time of abandonment and betrayal. Now everyone can benefit from his wit and wisdom in this fascinating book of inspiration for first responders. Brad communicates truth from scripture to the reality of the front lines of crisis in a way that anyone can appreciate and enjoy. I strongly endorse this wonderful work of Brad Green as well as the man who wrote it.”

Stephen Arterburn, author and founder of NewLife Ministries

“Retirement from law enforcement is somewhat a misnomer. Retired Officer Brad Green is still on the job, working to help those in the first responder community. Devotion to a job is admirable, however, devotion to faith is a necessary element to help the men and women of the first responder calling to sleep at night. Chaplain Brad Green has that devotion. Take God’s words as relayed through Chaplain Brad and know there is peace in this world that can surpass all our earthly understanding. Be assured that those painful memories will pass by letting the words of this devotional touch your heart and soul.”

Chaplain Mike MacIntosh, D.Min, D.Div, San Diego PD, Newport Beach PD, Rancho Santa Fe Fire Rescue

“I have enjoyed reading Brad Green’s devotionals for many years. They are well-written, succinct, and encouraging. Brad’s experience as an elite athlete, career law enforcement officer, pastor, and parent of daughters with medically challenging issues has prepared him to speak calm encouragement into the lives of people who live on the edge as first responders. When you read Brad’s writings you are hearing the voice of someone who has not just survived but thrived in the midst of crisis. Brad gets it and will help you keep doing what you do with courage, strength, and joy.”

Dave Rolph, senior pastor, Calvary Chapel Pacific Hills

“Like you, my husband Ken and I admire and respect our nation’s law enforcement officers, EMTs, and firefighters. And with our country in so much turmoil right now; with terrorism, natural disasters, and riots, our First Responders are being stretched to the limit. And I’m not only referring to the numbers in their ranks – these brave Americans are battling stress and discouragement. This is why I am 100 percent behind Badge to Badge, a new devotional book written by Brad Green. My friend Brad is perfectly qualified to encourage First Responders. As a former police officer and, pastor, he is expertly gifted to offer guidance and courage to our beleaguered frontline responders. If you have a loved one who serves in emergency services, this is the perfect gift to bolster their spirits and energize their commitment to the cause. I give Badge to Badge a double thumbs-up!”

Joni Eareckson Tada, Joni and Friends International Disability Center

“I’ve known Brad Green for over 40 forty years and consider him a great friend who has walked through the thick & thins of life with me. Over four decades of trusting and following God in his marriage, his parenting, his friendships and his various career paths are represented in the powerful lessons of God in this book. In Brad’s Badge to Badge devotional, he provides an awesome tool to help seek the wisdom of God to jump start each day of the year. I love the way each day’s message includes a brief truth from the Bible, a compelling real- life story from Brad’s life (as a first responder, athlete, father, husband) and a practical “thought for the day” that helps focus us on God’s presence and power in the midst of every situation we are in. Brad’s ability to tell a captivating story and tie it into a truth from the Word of God inspires me to turn the page and see what he and God want to share with me to start out the new day! I highly recommend Badge to Badge for anyone wanting to develop a daily rhythm with God to combat the chaos of the world, the darkness of the enemy and provide you with supernatural peace.”

Allen Pugh, CEO of- Rhyno Corporation

“Brad Green is what you would call, “a cop’s cop.” He worked in patrol, traffic, vice, hostage negotiation, defense tactics instruction, and more during his 21twenty-one years of service with the Newport Beach Police Department. But Brad is also a pastor, with a heart for first responders. He cares about them, and he knows what it’s like to walk in their shoes. He has written a new book full of encouragement from one first responder to others serving in law enforcement, fire, medical services, and the military. This book will ground you in Scripture, encourage you, and point you to Christ. I recommend this new book by Brad Green to you.”

Greg Laurie, senior pastor, of Harvest Christian Fellowship

“As a law enforcement first responder, Brad Green has gained a first-hand, up close, and personal understanding of the human condition. Continually on the frontlines of adversity, showing up to help others in their worst moments and sharing some of the most memorable experiences with his brothers-in-arms; Brad has accumulated a career of recollections that he utilizes to dispatch truths as they relate to the spiritual battlefield. You will find yourself drawn into the events he relays and will come away with a clearer perspective about knowing God and making Him known. “

Chad Williams, former Navy SEAL

“God used Brad in my life as a conduit to Jesus while we played football together at the University of Southern California. He was, and remains, thoughtful and discerning. Brad pulls experiences from his life and law enforcement career into his writings that will stimulate your thought and faith.”

Anthony Munoz, NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame 1998

“I first had the opportunity to know Officer Brad Green when I became a chaplain with the Newport Beach Police Department. Then as I joined him on, “pastoral ride-alongs,” I realized that he was a committed Christian man who loved to serve in ministries. Some years ago, when he began sending out his weekly Badge to Badge devotions, it became apparent that he had an ability to put together great spiritual thoughts focusing on and relating to first responders. As he has now put together these devotions in a book, I am sure they will encourage many in their relationship with Jesus Christ.”

Don McClure, Pastor, Calvary Chapel

“Chaplain Brad Green has taken his real-life experience as a police officer and chaplain and applied it to the alarm bells of every first responder. His insight into biblical truth, challenges us to adopt faith into our daily lives, whether we are responding down the street with red lights and siren, or at home away from the job.”

Greg Newland, Captain II, LA City Fire Department

“Life can be incredibly difficult. Those of us who have been called to serve the medical needs of others get a front row seat to many of the tragedies this world has to offer. The full effects of that exposure can only be truly understood by those in our same professional circle. Thankfully, Chaplain Brad Green has drawn from his own experiences in law enforcement to invoke the hope that a faith in Jesus Christ can bring during our darkest moments. He simultaneously strikes just the right balance between God’s unapologetic truth, and His unending love for us. In his own unique way, Brad is able to communicate the very words needed for any first responder who longs to be reminded of God’s goodness and purpose for their life. Regardless of the events that your calling leads you to, the devotions found in this book will allow you to overcome any circumstance as you continue to selflessly serve others in need.”

Maria Santana, adult critical care registered nurse

“I would like to recommend to you the life and gleanings from a man who knows what it’s like to see God work in his life. It is exciting enough to have success in one area of life, but Brad Green has found himself being used by God in many areas over the years that have uniquely qualified him to write this perennial devotion. Brad is no stranger to Jesus’ command to “Love they neighbor.” In doing so, he has served his God, nation, community, and his family faithfully. His effectiveness in these areas has distinctively qualified him to speak into our lives. I trust that you will receive much from this devotion and I pray that you would add it to your daily walk with God. “
